How to Know If a Seedling Is Healthy

A healthy seedling usually shows steady growth, strong leaves, and a firm upright stem. When a farmer checks the seedling regularly, it becomes easier to notice whether the plant is adjusting well after planting or beginning to struggle.
The leaves should look fresh and natural in colour. Some light change may happen as the seedling adjusts, but leaves that remain weak, folded, yellow, or dry may show that the plant is under stress. This can be caused by lack of water, too much water, poor soil contact, or damage around the roots.
The stem should also be firm and stable. A seedling that keeps bending, shaking too much, or leaning strongly may need support. Simple support sticks can help young seedlings remain upright as the roots become stronger.
Farmers should also check the soil around the plant. The area should be clean, slightly moist, and free from heavy weed growth. When the leaves, stem, and soil condition are good, the seedling has a better chance of growing into a strong productive tree.
