Why Seedling Spacing Matters in Fruit Farming

Spacing is important because fruit trees need enough room to grow, spread branches, and receive sunlight. When seedlings are planted too close together, they may compete for light, water, and nutrients as they mature.

Good spacing also makes farm management easier. A farmer can move around the trees, prune branches, apply manure, monitor pests, and harvest fruits more comfortably. Poor spacing can make the farm crowded and difficult to manage later.

Different fruit trees may require different spacing depending on the variety, soil, climate, and farming system. For example, avocado, mango, citrus, and apple seedlings may not all be spaced the same way. A farmer should ask for guidance before planting.

Proper spacing is a long-term decision. Once trees mature, correcting poor spacing becomes difficult. Planning well before planting helps the farmer avoid future losses and gives each tree a better chance to produce well.
